The East of England Economic Strategy has identified the equine industry as a key economic cluster with the industry worth an estimated £4 billion a year. East Cambridgeshire is home to a vibrant and growing equine cluster based around Newmarket. The equine cluster in the south of the District includes large-scale commercial activities, leisure and recreational uses and ancillary activities like farriery, equine medicine and tack and feed supply. The industry offers enormous direct and related opportunities for business in the area.
Darley, HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s global breeding operations headquarters can be found at Dalham Hall Stud in the district. Employing up to 250 people and nearly 600 people worldwide the stud is home to champion stallions such as the sensational Derby winner Authorized.
Europe’s finest equine hospital facility is located on the former Kremlin Stud in East Cambridgeshire home to the world-renowned Greenwood, Ellis and Partners veterinary practice.
